Somber Eve

I see clouds in the sullen sky,
And the sun peeks through these
And still makes a sharp intrusion
     Into the dreary day.

It’s coldish out and chilling –
My arms break out in bumps.
I have no coat for the beating breeze –
     The waves chop my eardrums.

Subtly soft the song of the wind
     Lulls my mind with whispers
Of grayish thoughts, not sad but silent
     And calmly reflective.
All this fills me with a somber
State of mind in which I wander.
