Sentiment

I cannot keep my sentiment
      and be by reason bound
 when all around me is such torment,
      and silence I can’t its sound.

 A side of me perceives such beauties
      and hides from the horror;
 the other sees naught but sadness
      and misses all the laughter.

 Unite in me the brave that bears
      the world’s heavy load,
 yet guards wonder throughout the years
      and plays a joyful mode.
