Passing Ages

The mountains rise and fall with the passing ages,
and on their slopes again and again
the forests grow and burn when the fire rages,

their ashes spreading out a layer that presages
new ages wherein new life may reign
on the mountains rising and falling with the ages.

The rivers cut deep as their water rampages
fast over slow ages as falls the rain
that waters the forest that burns when the fire rages.

The ice crushes rock in slow glacial stages,
feeding rivers, draining out to the plain
beneath the mountains rising and falling with the ages.

The winds whistle on the peaks where it outrages
the senses of a brave climber's brain,
and blows through the forests where the fire rages.

All these things go on and on with the everlasting ages
and my mind cannot time's course contain:
For the mountains rise and fall with the passing ages
and the forests grow and burn when the fire rages.

  1. Only the immortal God can contain all of this. So, find yourself in Him. In His presence the mountains melt like wax. The trees clap their hands and stand for centuries and millennia. Isaiah 65:22 holds a beautiful promise! And, the greatest promise is immortality in Christ.
